Joshua Tree National Park is a venn diagram of the Mojave and Sonoran Deserts. Very different types of plants in each type of desert because of the elevation. I knew we would see some extraordinary trees, but I had no idea we would be heading to the climbing mecca of the west. The boulder piles were the most extravagant an unexpected part of the adventure.
The strangest looking old trees! They don’t bloom every year, rely on pollenation by a single bird species, and will branch in response to damage from a freezing event.
It was cold in the desert. Fortunately our AirBnB had a hot tub to keep warm in.
